Burn Permits are required for machine piles only. We will come out and inspect your burn pile on Tuesday or Saturday. Plan ahead and call the Fire Hall with your name, address and telephone number. Note the section on machine piled burns and special requirements. Current fire rating: LOW Please see the Current Fire Considerations page for more information. We have added the Fire Fighter Application online. If you have an interest in helping the community through the fire department and would like to be considered, please download the application, fill it in and send it to the fire hall. The free post has a Fire Department Box where you can drop it off (put it in a sealed envelope). Thank you for your interest. To ensure you are ready for a wild fire, we recommend you visit our Living with the forest page which has some wonderful YouTube videos on forest fire fighting and what can be done around your home to reduce the risk to it. As mentioned in the May 2008 First Edition, find the Fire Hall Planning Report in the articles section — Please read the full or the basic version. Note that the information shown on the web site mentioned in the May First Edition is not connected in any way with the Hornby Island Fire Department and represents the views and opinions of the author. Check out the articles section to read the Community Wildfire Protection Plan released April 2006. The Fire Department is handing out free smoke detectors for those in the community in need. Take a moment and contact us (250.335.2611) and you just may save a life and your property down the road. If you are renting your cabin, you have a legal obligation to make sure you have a working smoke alarm in place.
